Redmond High School welcomes new water bottle filling station – Redmond Reporter

On April 29, Cascade Water Alliance will join Redmond High School students and staff for a ribbon cutting ceremony for a new water bottle filling station. Event speakers include Redmond Mayor Angela Birney, Redmond High School Principal Jill VanderVeer, and students.

The ribbon cutting ceremony will take place at Redmond High School, located at 17272 Northeast 104th Street from 12:00 p.m. until 12:45 p.m.

“We have to look at the long term,” said Mandira Ganti, a member of Redmond High School’s Green Team. “There are simple changes we can make and switching from a plastic bottle to a reusable one is something anyone can do.”

During her freshman year, Ganti noticed a need for more refillable water bottle stations. She explained this need to the school’s PTSA, who then got in touch with Cascade Water Alliance.

According to Michael Brent, Water Resources Manager for Cascade Water Alliance, the project began about a year ago.

“I work with many schools and teachers in Eastside cities, and this seemed like a great opportunity for Cascade to work with Redmond High School to promote the value of water,” said Brent.

Brent mentioned that Cascade is providing 2,300 reusable water bottles to Redmond High School. Students who sign a water pledge and commit to using reusable water bottles will receive one of the free reusable water bottles provided.
